let’s create something meaningful together.
our approach
Made on Marthas was born from an appreciation of craftsmanship, architecture, and the belief that the spaces we live in deserve furniture made with the same level of intention. We design and build bespoke heirloom pieces that are timeless and built to last a lifetime.
Nestled in Hollin Hills—a mid-century modern community designed by Charles Goodman in the 1950s—my workshop is both home and studio, and the place where every piece begins. Living and building here has shaped the way I think about furniture: clean lines, premium materials, thoughtful proportions, and pieces that perfectly fit the space they are in.
At Made on Marthas, furniture isn’t pulled from a catalog or built to standard dimensions. Every piece is designed in response to the space it will live in and the people who will live with it.
I believe the best furniture comes from conversation—understanding how you live, what you value, and how a piece can serve both function and feeling. My role is to bring life to that vision and build something lasting from it: one-of-a-kind furniture, meticulously designed and made, built by hand, and crafted specifically for each client.
-
bring us your ideas, pictures, samples, and inspirations. we’ll discuss options and ideas with you to help get an idea of the project and its elements.
-
based on the general design and materials, we’ll provide you a quote for the piece and a timeframe.
what goes into a quote: the labor and how many hours of work, the complexity of the work, materials, use of tools and specialty equipment, transportation
-
measurements and the design are sketched out. materials are confirmed.
-
the work begins and continues-
raw lumbar is purchased. wood takes time to acclimate so every from the time the rough lumbar is purchased, it has to acclimate for a week before beginning to be milled.
the wood is milled over days to do it correctly.
then the wood is used to build your piece.
if you have an iphone, we’ll share an album with you or can send you photos.
follow us on instagram and watch your piece be made
-
the final touches and finishes are put on the piece and it is delivered to the client
-
love the bespoke piece, show it off to family and friends, and update the will to include your new heirloom piece
the process
who we are
Corey, a retired Marine of 20 years who served as a comptroller, brings precision, discipline, and craftsmanship to every piece he builds by hand. He now works as a government contractor in business development for the Marine Corps’ financial management division when not in the workshop. Jenna, a nurse midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner, is his trusted assistant and design collaborator, lending her translatable skills from the operating room-anticipating needs, maintaining a working space, and a deep understanding of process.
They first turned to furniture building wanting pieces that fit their space perfectly, reflected their vision, and met their standards for quality. What began as a personal pursuit quickly became a shared craft. Drawn to Hollin Hills for its expansive windows, distinct homes, and park-like setting, they’ve stayed for something less tangible but more meaningful: a close-knit community of neighbors who feel like family.
They like to find ways to enjoy life, even in small moments, and that intentionality can be found in their pieces. When not enjoying Hollin Hills and all that the DC area has to offer, you can find them traveling and spending time with friends and family.
